Variable inductors are more resistant to mechanical vibration?

It seems that many of the transistor based designs rely on a variable inductor to fine tune all of the resonant circuits in the system, and I am wondering why variable inductors are chosen over variable capacitors. Is that because variable inductors are more resistant to mechanical vibration?
