kv4p HT v1.7b
UPDATE Jan 25, 2025:
This design is now obsolete. Please use v1.8 instead which has far better transmit power and receive sensitivity, and fits more ESP32 dev boards! Find it here:
- kv4p HT v1.8a (1" wide 38-pin ESP32)
- kv4p HT v1.8b (0.9" narrow 38-pin ESP32)
- kv4p HT v1.8c (30-pin ESP32)
kv4p HT is a homebrew VHF radio that makes your phone capable of voice and text communication completely off-grid with at least a Technician class amateur radio license.
The radio simply plugs into the USB C port on your Android smartphone and transforms it into a fully-fledged handheld radio transceiver. It's completely open source (GPL3): the Android app, ESP32 firmware, PCB designs, and 3D printer files.
It's small enough to fit in your pocket and take anywhere, and since it has no internal battery it's the perfect emergency radio to put in a go-bag or your car's glove compartment.
See https://kv4p.com for instructions, open source code, and more information!

Hello, sorry. I think you may have misunderstood me, I am talking about T-2C3W856132A this order you have not yet paid. It does not refer to the PCB order you have previously placed. Also, for the questions you are experiencing, you can go to Discord for a consultation, and you may find the answer. https://discord.gg/Ev9R9uFeCq
Hello, I thought I was receiving version 1.7 circuits! I received 1.5. Kind regards
We found out that you had a PCB order placed on October 23rd, when the author's gerber in our community was still version 1.5, so you received version 1.5.
When you placed the order, the author's gerber file was version 1.5. The author later updated the file, please be aware of this.
Where can I get the BOM for v1. 5
I have sent it to you by email, please check it.
I own a small (myself and my son) US based manufacturing business and have considered offering these as assembled kits. I haven't reached out to the author/designer yet but if all works out would be happy to deliver a completely assembled unit for a relatively low cost. I can share my contact info if you are interested and what I propose is allowed via the open source license.
Jeg er også meget interesseret i at bestille et samlet projekt. VH arne i DK
Can you share an email or some way to contact you? I am interested.
You can click on the stl file in CAD-Custom parts and enclosures to place a 3D order and we can help you assemble it.
Thank you for your feedback. We also received feedback from the author yesterday. When a customer places an order in the future, we will add a U-connector to the BOM.
What is hard about it? It is the easiest project I have ever found.
If you click Only PCB to place an order, you will get a PCB without assembled components. If you click PCB+Assembly to place an order, we will assemble the PCB for you according to the BOM provided by the author, and you will get a PCB with assembled components.
