IC eval board
This continues from my PCB review. The component sourcing went without a hitch. There was only one IC that I had to help PCBWay locate, but that's not a major surprise given how rare that component is. I was a bit worried that getting this part might not be possible, but PCBWay was willing to try and actually managed to acquire the critical component! During the project I received two engineering questions. The staff were friendly and helpful. It felt like they are on my side, which was a welcome change from the previous experiences that I had. Issues caused by my team's inexperience were resolved wonderfully and quickly. I actually wonder what it must be like working for PCBWay. It seems like a healthy place to be in. I briefly mused to myself as to how interesting would it be to work for them. That's a sign of good service. Component placement both went decently. I can see some components about two degrees off the angle I wanted. This is absolutely not a problem, of course. Soldering was good too. One through-hole joint was a bit low on solder, but it thankfully was a redundant ground joint only used for a mechanical reason. The other parts were perfect. My project worked right off the bat, without any need for corrections. Thank you, PCBWay! You did it! ^_^ The only problem that I can speak of is the long lead time. It wasn't a big problem in my case, but I can see how it could become an issue. In my case I just worked on other aspects of the project while waiting for the assembly. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this service. I am likely going to use it again, as long as I can afford the wait times. For time-critical projects this is sadly not a great vendor. But hey, if you can plan ahead enough there is literally no better vendor. And believe me, I evaluated about 20 of them by now.
