M2M Modem
A range of M2M modes with various options including RS485, High speed counters, 0-5V Analog inputs, Digital Outputs, and 2-20mA Analog outputs on option boards that fit into the main motherboard. Built into DIN module cases and used to gather data from Electricity meters for storage on a Web Server, ability to control Solar Farms to monitor and where necessary limit the energy produced. Fitted with Ethernet and GPRS capability to link to the Internet in rural areas.
Step 1: Hardware
The modems use SPI for internal communication to various devices including non volatile memory to store data, motherboards are designed to take option boards that are designed on a basic PCB so they all have the same interface to the main board which contains the connections to the real world and the main processing unit
Motherboard has two RS485 serial ports, Ethernet LAN 10/100Mb, 32kB of non volatile memory for local storage, power fail indication to control shutdown and operates from 100-240VAC or 12 to 24V DC
Options on plugin boards include
0-5V analog inputs
High Speed counters
0-24V DC 0.5A digital outputs
4-20mA Analog Outputs.
Micro SD card
GPRS card to communicate via mobile networks
Step 2: Software
A complete set of software functions to handle each of the different option boards is included in the main software which includes SPI library to communicate with various devices, Ethernet Library to handle communications to networks via 10/100Mb connections. GPRS library to handle communications via the mobile network using data transfer, SMS messaging library, Serial communications using Modbus protocol via RS485 hardware.
