Trial board assembly

First time to try PCB assembly (from any company). I didn't know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was. The procurement people took the time to source exactly the right components (correct manufacturer, correct part) that I specified, even for slightly odd parts. They also suggested alternatives that they already had in stock, giving me the choice. The components were perhaps a 15% mark-up over me sourcing from Digi-Key myself, but to be fair this was for just a 5-board order - and having PCBWay do the procurement instead of me was worth it. After assembly of the first unit (of only 5) they sent me a photo to confirm layout and also whether the rotation of some of the parts was correct. I wondered what they meant - they should be able to figure out which way the part goes, from the files supplied! They explained that two of my parts (dual transistor packages) could be rotated 180 degrees with no electrical difference. They knew that but just wanted me to be happy with the aesthetics - such as the marking on the devices reading the same way. PCBs delivered tested perfectly. This was a test PCB with only a small number of very small parts, but I was impressed. Overall a quite pleasant experience.
