V,H,S - a series of an ergonomic keyboards.

Introduction

In everyday life, we use keyboards a lot. We use them so much to the degree that we get used to the legacy of an old typewriter, the horizontally staggered layout. Most of us know that the widely used physical layout of our conventional keyboards came from the mechanical limitation of an old typewriter. Although it does not consider the ergonomics of typing, we, as a species of adaptation, made ourselves comfortable with the old legacy rather than making it fit our needs.

However, with the advance in open-source firmware and PCB fabrication services, we now see that many creative alternatives are coming out to the keyboard communities and commercial market. As a part of these attempts, project V,H,S aims to make a series of keyboards that is more ergonomic and has more functionalities than our conventional keyboards.

So, what is it?

A while ago, I made my first ergonomic keyboard, VNN. It was a unibody non-split ergonomic keyboard where the physical layout of keys was designed to fit our hand posture in typing better. Although it was great to type on, I began to have more ideas to improve the original design. So, here comes my next project V,H,S,It will have a similar physical arrangement of the keys but with more extendable peripherals, such as a trackball and trackpad. By integrating these peripherals into the compact and ergonomic layout of VNN, it is expected that V,H,S will provide an insight into how the current, decades-old keyboard can be improved for better ergonomics and functionalities. As the original design, V,H,S will have a 3D printed housing with open-source firmware, such as QMK, ZMK, and KMK.
