Breakout board for evaluating and developing micro-controller integrations for CS5490 Energy Monitor ASIC
What is it?
A breakout board for Cirrus Logic CS5490 Energy Monitor IC.
Why did you make it?
I made it to evaluate the performance for the CS5490 Energy Monitor IC, easy breadboarding and Arduino/Micropython driver development without messing with 120V/240V AC.
Assembling the board was also used as a teaching exercise for the fledgling Open-Hardware Meetup in Nairobi.
What makes it special?
This board was designed in Kenya and few prototypes were assembled by a group of enthusiasts. You can read the full story here.
It has been tested successfully using Arduino style drivers, Micropython as well as standard CPython. Due to the UART interface it is very easy to integrate with any microcontroller/embedded systems.
