One of the most fundamental skills in electronics is knowing how to use a soldering iron. A soldering iron is a metal rod that heats up and is used to melt solder onto electronic components, usually to form a bond so that the components can be used on a circuit board. In addition to a soldering iron and solder, solder flux is also sometimes used. Solder flux is a substance that is spread on a circuit board before soldering as a way to facilitate the bonding of joints. Sometimes, flux residue is left on the circuit board. When this happens, you will want to remove the residue.
Instructions
1 Allow the solder joint to cool and harden before trying to remove the excess flux.
2 Spray the flux remover on the area where the flux residue is. Tilt the circuit board in your hand and allow the cleaner and flux particles to drip off the side of the board.
3 Gently scrub with a toothbrush the area where you sprayed if there are heavy flux deposits.
4 Spray the area quickly with canned air to remove flux particles.
5 Spray a small amount of window cleaner on the end of a Q-tip. Apply the Q-tip to the area if a white film emerges where the flux residue was. The white film indicates that there is still some residue on the area. Swab the tip of the Q-tip over the white areas. then spray canned air to dry and remove it.
