ParaBone

Parallel converter board for the beaglebone black. Allows the beaglebone black to be used for a CNC controller for a CNC machine. Converts the 3.3V signal from the BBB to the 5V necessary to control a typical parallel controller board. Many thanks to the 3PCB team for being so customer friendly, responding so quick to questions and for the sheer incredible quality of the boards. They're fantastic quality and very accurate.

Step 1: Initial design concept

This was the initial design concept for the ParaBone board. 

Pro:

Initial inspecion of the boards resulted in a very good impression of the quality.

Cons:

Upon receipt of the board it was found that the incorrect pin pitch spacing had been used on the headers and so the boards were of no use to me.

There was some errors in the main design schematic which meant the level converters didn't receive any power.

Pull down resistors were used on the spare 7 pin port. The level translators have built in pull-ups and therefore the resistors weren't necessary.

The common on the spare 7 pin port was connected to 5V. This wouldn't work with the built in pullups in the chips.
