Apexzinho: An open-source electronic platform keychain

The Apexzinho is an innovative project developed by the SESI APEX team, aimed at introducing students to the fascinating world of robotics and programming. This keychain, designed in the shape of an astronaut, is not just a playful accessory, but a powerful learning tool that combines fun and education. Integrated with an ATtiny85 microcontroller, Apexzinho allows young learners to explore the basics of programming in a practical and interactive way.

Features of Apexzinho

Initially, the project was envisioned on a bare board, but in an effort to add artistic expression_ and playfulness to the device, we decided to create a PCB with an original and appealing design. The astronaut shape not only makes Apexzinho visually interesting but also stimulates students' imaginations, making learning even more engaging.

Apexzinho is designed to be portable and accessible. Its main innovation is the USB connection built directly into the PCB, eliminating the need for additional cables to execute codes. This simplifies the user experience, allowing students to simply connect the Apexzinho to a computer and start programming quickly.

Additionally, the device features a 0.96-inch OLED display, which provides an attractive visual interface for displaying information and real-time feedback. This combination of hardware enables students to see the results of their code immediately, making the learning process even more dynamic.

How the Project Works

The operation of Apexzinho is quite simple and intuitive. After connecting the keychain to a computer via USB, students can use programming environments like the Arduino IDE to write and upload their code directly to the ATtiny85 microcontroller. Students have the freedom to create various projects, ranging from simple displays on the OLED to more complex interactions with buttons and LEDs as their skills develop.

Moreover, Apexzinho can be used to teach fundamental concepts of electronics, such as circuits and basic components. Students are encouraged to experiment, modify, and even create their own customized projects, fostering creativity and problem-solving skills.

Actions and Impact

The Apexzinho project is one of the initiatives from the SESI APEX team participating in the Brazilian Robotics Olympiad (OBR), in the virtual practical modality, under the category of social responsibility and scientific outreach. With Apexzinho, we aim to democratize access to robotics education, providing young people from diverse backgrounds with the opportunity to engage with technology in a playful and practical way.

Apexzinho represents not only a learning tool but an invitation to exploration, innovation, and the formation of a new generation of thinkers and creators. Join us on this journey and take your first steps into the universe of robotics!
