Bubbles the Combat Robot

We are Bad Conflict, a combat robotics team comprised of passionate STEM students and FIRST Robotics Competition Team 2451 PWNAGE alumni. We are dedicated to promoting STEM education through the exhilarating world of combat robotics. Our team fosters a collaborative environment where students learn valuable engineering, design, and problem-solving skills.

Our Commitment to Accessibility:

We strongly believe that combat robotics should be an inclusive sport. To increase accessibility, our team recognizes the significant costs of building and maintaining competitive robots and we proudly cover 100% of our members' robot expenses. We achieve this goal through a combination of fundraising and valuable sponsorships like yours.

Introducing Our Project: Bubbles (Antweight Combat Robot)

Chassis: Constructed from lightweight, durable carbon fiber, and cnc'd nylon 6, Bubbles features a strong and agile frame. This frame features a tab-slot design to allow for easy construction and manufacturing with the center uprights adding threaded holes to help lock the entire chassis together.

Armor: Bubbles Features TPU armor on its exterior. This allows for shock absorbsion and features intentionally designed air gaps to allow for better shock mounting and to save weight across the entire robot. These armour pieces are modular and allow for quick replacement betweeen fights as well as the ability to itterate and develop configurations suited for different styles of opposing robots.

Drive System: Bubbles utilizes a four-wheel drive configuration, providing excellent maneuverability and traction on various battleground surfaces. This is combined with brushless motors and custom silicone wheels to provide the best ability to control the opponent. We are able to pin and box rush with the added speed and torque that brushless motors provide.

Configuration: Bubbles is designed to handle all situations and compete with the best robots around. To do this we designed multiple configurations, each balancing armor and destructive potential to help ensure durability and best optimizing to knock out opponents. These include two different wedges, one constructed out of grade 5 Titanium for maximum protection, with the downside of having to run a lighter weapon blade. The other wedge is constructed of TPU which allows for a higher-weight weapon with an increase in durability against horizontal spinners. Bubbles also features a fork configuration that has been iterated on to allow bubbles to get under any competitor and control their movement as well as allowing us to get better hits on the opponent. Finally, we have a solid titanium top plate configuration that allows us to armor ourselves from overhead attack robots. This protects vital electronics and renders their weapons useless.

Vertical Spinner: The robot's primary weapon is a powerful vertical spinner designed to deliver high-impact blows and capable of shredding opponents' armor. This weapon is constructed from AR600 and includes an extremely high moment of inertia with a hoop-like design to maximize hits against competitors. There is an alternate weapon constructed from grade 5 titanium to allow more armor to be added to the robot in hard-hitting fights.

Control System: Bubbles is controlled by a series of microcontrollers that process sensor data and send commands to the robot's motors and weapon. These include brushless ESCs, a power distribution board, and a receiver.

Power System: The robot is powered by a high-capacity 3s Lipo-Battery that provides sufficient energy for its motor and spinner. The capacity is optimized to allow us to run the exact length of our fight without adding additional weight to the bot.

Overall Design Philosophy:

Bubbles is designed to achieve a combination of offensive strength and defensive versatility. The vertical spinner serves as the primary weapon, capable of delivering devastating blows. The lightweight chassis and efficient power system ensure that Bubbles is both agile and powerful. Bubbles has compiled a 3-7 record across three competitions, each providing valuable learning opportunities to refine and improve the design. Our current revision focuses on strengthening the chassis by adding additional screws to the uprights. We've also opted for a hub motor to maximize battery space and reduce friction, ultimately lowering current draw.

A Perfect Partnership:

Here at Bad Conflict, we heavily utilize cnc manufacturing in our robots' construction. Your high-quality, rapid cnc manufacturing services appeal to us as we need quality parts delivered on a rapid schedule.

Sponsorship Benefits:

PCBWay's sponsorship program offers several benefits that perfectly align with our needs:

  • Reduced PCB costs: Discounts on PCB fabrication would allow us to stretch our limited budget further, allowing us to build more advanced and competitive robots.
  • Streamlined manufacturing: PCBWay's rapid turnaround times would allow us to quickly prototype and iterate our designs, maximizing our efficiency.
  • Exposure: We would proudly display the PCBWay logo on our robots and social media platforms, increasing your brand awareness among a passionate STEM audience.

Next Steps:

To showcase our commitment and capabilities, we have attached the Bill of Materials (BOM) for Bubbles and provided links to competition videos demonstrating the robot in action. We would be happy to discuss any specific sponsorship opportunities that would mutually benefit both parties.

Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Bad Conflict Combat Robotics Team
