FORMULA UEM
Formula UEM was founded in 2007, starting as an automotive club in which a vehicle was designed with the objective of learning and training future engineers. Currently the team has 90 people from different disciplines, both from engineering careers and from communication, marketing, biomedicine, business... The current objective of the team is to design a formula type vehicle, capable of achieving maximum performance to beat the other competitors. The competition the team is involved in is Formula Student, a worldwide competition in which teams from all over the world compete to prove that their vehicle is the best.
The project the team is working on is the FUEM16 vehicle, which is a vehicle powered by BIO-ETHANOL, seeking to provide an alternative solution to current fuels so that there can be several energy options in the automotive industry. In addition to this, part of the team is working on the next prototype looking for a hybridization of electric propulsion and bio-fuels in the search of obtaining the best performance of both propulsion systems, eliminating dependence on one of them and facilitating their coexistence.
In this video you could appreciate how does a formual student competition works with a recap of Formula Student Spain.
In this year's roadmap, the team has managed to qualify for the following competitions:
- Formula Student Austria
- Formula Student Spain
- Formula Student Netherlands
- Formula Student Poland
- Formula Student East
- Formula Student Czech Republic
- Formula Student Balkans
- Formula Student Italy
Within the team there is a department that makes continuous use of PCBs, this is Electronics. Within the competition, it is highly valued that team members develop their own systems instead of using commercial systems, and that is why at Formula UEM we want to demonstrate that we are capable of developing our own solutions. The department's PCBs are divided into two sections, these being "Power Supply & Safety Systems" and "On-Board Computer"
1. "Power Supply & Safety Systems" (PLAUSABILITY)
"Plausability" is the name given to the circuit that is responsible for ensuring that all the safety conditions set by the competition regulations are met. In this case, the PCB is designed so that if the driver presses the accelerator and brake pedal simultaneously by 25% for more than 500ms, the car must turn off. In addition to the previous condition, the same must happen in case there is a 10% implausibility between the accelerator pedal and the position of the electronic throttle. The PCB has two 12V automotive relays for each of the systems, operational comparators such as the LM358 and the LM393 to differentiate the input signals from the sensors.
2. "On-board computer" (NEXUS)
"Nexus" is the name of the PCB whose function is to process data for everything that is happening in the car. Its objective is to process all the data that is being sent by the CAN-BUS protocol and send it to the base through LORA (E220-400), or save it in the data acquisition system using an SD. The PCB has two microcontrollers, the STM32F102R8T6 and an ATMega2560. In addition to this, the PCB has different sensors that help obtain data from the vehicle that is of interest to draw conclusions about its performance. For this, the MPU-6050 is used to obtain the accelerations that occur in the vehicle. It also has a UBLOX-M9N to know the GPS position of the car and its speed.
If you have the benefits of being sponsored, the team would be tremendously grateful. Being able to carry out prototyping of our designs quickly, reliably and at a lower cost would contribute in a very significant way to students being able to continue generating ideas that can be brought to a real level. In this way, students will be able to develop skills that would otherwise be impossible.
That is why we would be delighted to be part of the PCBWay sponsorship program, and encourage future generations of students to take risks and take action towards big goals, demonstrating that there is a way to carry out your ideas and that limits are the limit. starting point.
