VOLTA Project

The Volta Project is an innovative, student-led initiative with a mission to "electrify and operate the world’s first electric Peugeot 208 Cup." With a dedicated team of engineering students from ESTACA—a leading French engineering school specializing in transportation—Volta is much more than a dream. This pioneering project aims to retrofit a Peugeot 208 Racing Cup vehicle into a fully electric model, with plans to debut in the TTE championship in 2025.

Through this project, we are working to achieve multiple ambitious goals. First and foremost, Volta emphasizes the importance of sustainable mobility, specifically through retrofitting as a key solution for greener, future-ready motorsports and the broader automotive industry. Additionally, the project pushes the boundaries of technical innovation, as our team works intensively on designing and optimizing crucial systems like electric propulsion, chassis architecture, and control systems. Our ultimate aim is to enable our electric vehicle to compete head-to-head with traditional combustion-engine cars. The project also provides invaluable skill development, as students are actively engaged across various technical departments, gaining hands-on experience in control systems, electric propulsion, chassis design, and project management.

So far, the Volta Project has made significant progress, with each milestone met in the past two years. In 2023, we successfully acquired the vehicle and began the technical studies essential for the retrofitting process. In 2024, we conducted initial testing and made further optimizations to the vehicle's design.

While we have come a long way, several critical tasks remain. To ensure the car’s high performance, we still need to implement an effective cooling system for the batteries, adapt the electrical motor to deliver optimal performance, and complete the software programming required to enable various racing modes.

As the Volta Project nears completion, we are actively seeking partnerships that can offer financial, material, or technical support to help bring this visionary project to life.
