Weather Satellite Design
The Research and Development Team (AR-GE) was established in 2022 by students interested in the science and industry of aviation within the Aerospace and Aviation Society of Kütahya Dumlupınar University. This 10-member team is also part of the TEKNOFEST Coordination. Since the 2022-2023 academic year, the students have been preparing for various scientific research projects to promote scientific and technological advancements and to share their knowledge and experiences.
The satellite consists of two main sections: the Carrier and the Payload. After being released from the planned altitude, a specially designed separation system is used to separate them at the desired altitude. Both sections continue their descent with passive landing systems, namely parachutes. The Carrier and Payload can independently collect and transmit real-time data on temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, position, and altitude to the ground station. The sensors used in the system can analyze data with an accuracy of ±1.0°C for temperature, ±3% for humidity, ±1 hPa for pressure, and ±1 meter for altitude. A Kalman Filter is used to improve data accuracy.
The communication module can transmit data up to 5000 meters in open areas. The system operates completely autonomously, but can also be manually controlled via a specially designed flight software algorithm. Additionally, it is capable of live video streaming and video recording. The likelihood of data loss is very low due to the radio frequency communication. In this innovative project, the data collected at the designated altitudes is thoroughly analyzed using a specially designed avionics system.
