There is little doubt that you are only able to read this blog with the help of a machine or a gadget that contains a printed circuit board. There is also little doubt that most of us do not have a clue about what a printed circuit board or a PCB is.

In very simple words, a printed circuit board or a PCB is a very thin board that is often made up of fiber glass or another substance with similar qualities. Mostly it is green in color.

Most of us have encountered printed circuit boards during our childhoods when we used to tear open our expensive toys or other appliances in order to see what was inside them. In retrospect, the act seems so foolish since we were never actually able to figure out what it was all about. However, we did come about those little green boards that were adorned with tiny colorful objects.

Invented during the 1940’s, the PCB is a true marvel of science which has seen numerous alterations, improvements and transformations from the days it first came into use. The modern PCB is unbelievably smaller in size and considerably much more powerful in performance. Your mobile phone is an enduring example of the way PCB technology has been revolutionized in the past few years.

There have been other innovations in the field of printed circuit boards, but they are not as obvious. Take for example the new bent boards, a divergence from the traditional flat PCBs. There are several modern devices that actually use these bent boards.

Printed circuit boards are the most important component of electronic devices like mobile phones, digital cameras and computers. PCBs are, however, not confined to these electronics gadgets. They are being used in specialist products like medical and aviation equipment.

PCB manufacturers follow very strict standards since a printed circuit board is the main aspect of any electronic equipment on which hinges the reliability of the operational abilities of the entire device. A printed circuit board is the basic foundation on which the entire circuitry of the equipment is laid. Similar to the electrical wiring inside a house, the PCB makes sure that instrument keeps working efficiently and smoothly.

A reliable PCB manufacturer has complete command over the several stages that are involved in its production right from designing to making prototypes and finally producing them en masse. At every stage, the main focus of the manufacturer is to make sure that each and every PCB that comes off the assembly line is free of all errors and has the strength to keep working for many years.

One of the main functions of the printed circuit board is to keep the processor connected to the rest of the components within the equipment. Take for example the motherboard in a personal computer. It is connected to all the equipment and ensures the computer, as a complete unit, keeps functioning. If the printed circuit board is either flawed or sub-standard, the entire machine would stop working.
