circuit boards are part of a computer system. The circuit boards are full of precious metals, plastics and similar recyclable materials. Since many of the items within the circuit boards are recyclable, any time a circuit board is no longer useful there are recycling options.

Instructions

1 Call local sanitation or energy departments and ask whether there are local circuit board recycling options available. There are some companies that deal specifically with circuit board recycling or similar items. Local sanitation or energy departments will usually have information available about companies that handle circuit boards. Since there is hazardous materials in the circuit boards, the sanitation department is usually a good choice for information.

2 Call local recycling centers. Recycling centers will often either accept the circuit boards if they accept electronics or will have information about centers that accept circuit boards and electronics.

3 Look into local computer recycling options. Printed circuit boards are part of an electronic system like a computer, so many computer recycling companies or centers will accept circuit boards for recycling as well as the complete electronic device.

4 Consider recycling options slightly outside the local area. Some areas will have electronics recycling options in the area, but more rural areas will usually require looking a little outside the local area to find a center that accepts circuit boards.

5 Take the circuit boards to the recycling center. Circuit boards are not placed in with pick-up recyclables because the process of recycling is specialized.
