Hello PCBWay community, this is Dario. I am an Italian electronics engineer, with huge passion for audio and music.

Project Description

I'm happy to share with you a nice project: BassWasp HAT. It is an expansion board for Raspberry Pi, it will work fine with all Rasbperry Pi versions with 40-pin GPIO header (Zero, Zero-W, 2, 3A, 3B, 4) and with ASUS ThinkerBoard too. It's been designed following the mechanical and electrical specification for the HAT form factor. It can be combined with a DSI Touchscreen Display or a SPI Touchscreen Display, thanks to the extended GPIO header.

Together with Volumio it will turn your Raspberry Pi into an excellent digital audio player.

BassWasp HAT is powered by the following peripherals:

- 1x HiFi I2S Stereo DAC PCM5102A from Texas Instruments

- 2x RCA connectors

- 1x ON/OFF switch

- 1x I2C EEPROM

- 2x Solder Jumpers for De-emphasis control and Filter selection

- 1x Back-power protection, following Raspberry Pi Foundation recommendation

Volumio Setup

Download the latest Volumio image from the official website, than flash the image on a SD-card, as usual. Please refer to the Quickstart guide for the initial setup of your Volumio-based system.

In the third tab of the initial setup wizard, please enable I2S DAC and select R-PI DAC from the dropdown list

Raspi-OS Setup

Add the following line to your config.txt file

dtoverlay=rpi-dac
