The Yolk Workshop Keyboard is a feature-rich, custom-built keyboard that redefines the traditional typing interface by combining modern technology, aesthetic design, and user-centric features. It is designed to serve as an adaptive, intelligent platform, not just a static input device.

- ProxSense System: A proximity sensor that enables context-aware lighting and interaction.
- Slaptic Engine: A slide sensor with haptic feedback for multifunction controls like volume adjustment, scrolling, or backlight dimming.

Why Did You Decide to Make It?
The project stemmed from a desire to:
- Rethink Conventional Keyboards: Most keyboards are static and lack adaptability. This project aims to push boundaries, making the keyboard a smarter, more interactive device.
- Integrate Modern Features: By combining proximity sensing, haptics, and advanced lighting, the goal was to provide a high-tech, ergonomic typing experience that enhances productivity and creativity.
- Bridge Aesthetics and Functionality: The custom enclosure reflects a unique design philosophy, appealing to users who value personalization and artistic expression in their tools.
- Challenge the Norm: As an engineer and designer, this project provides a platform to experiment with cutting-edge technologies and explore innovative ideas.
How Does It Work?
Core Processing and Input Handling
The STM32L07 microcontroller handles key scanning with a 1ms polling rate for responsive and accurate input.
Full N-Key Rollover (NKRO) ensures every keystroke is registered, even during fast typing or gaming.
Interactive Systems
ProxSense System: Detects hands approaching the keyboard and dynamically adjusts the backlight for a welcoming and energy-efficient interaction.
Slaptic Engine: Processes sliding gestures and provides haptic feedback, allowing for intuitive control of volume, scrolling, lighting, or custom macros.
Smart Lighting
Backlight brightness adapts to ambient light conditions.
Programmable effects like a “breathing” mode enhance the visual experience, adding a sense of personalization and immersion.
