isolation sphere
Introduction
We created a regular pentagonal circuit board. By combining these pentagonal boards, we will construct a spherical display in the shape of a regular dodecahedron.
Each edge of the board is equipped with five terminals: [5V], [Din], [GND], [Dout], and [5V]. When the pentagons are aligned, the Din and Dout terminals connect, allowing us to solder them at those points. This enables connections to be made without additional wiring.
Moreover, the act of soldering these connections allows for the creation of a solid 3D structure, which is a key design feature.
The Isolation Sphere is a palm-sized spherical display capable of presenting images on its entire outer surface.
By integrating an internal IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), the sphere accurately measures its orientation in real time. Its standout feature is the automatic image rotation function—no matter how the ball is rotated, the displayed image remains correctly oriented, ensuring an optimal viewing experience.
Motivation
I have made spherical displays before.
I'm making spherical display system for several years.
In this project, I was considering implementing a gyro-based attitude control function.
In "isolation Cube", I implement this function .
"isolation sphere" is the spherical version of Cube.
