Combat Robot Weapon Motor Controller
My PCB project is a brushless motor controller for a 3lb combat robot. My robot uses a brushless motor to store kinetic energy in a hardened steel flywheel, and that big brushless motor needs a robust motor controller to drive it. A lot of the small hobby brushless motor controllers available on the market are made with very cheap FETs with low peak current safety factors and very basic firmware. My motor controller design uses a 32 bit STM microcontroller that receives radio inputs and translates that into instructions for a TI brushless motor FET gate driver. A control loop for smart motor management is also possible due to the current sensing resistors being read by the microprocessor. My goal is to develop a robust motor controller that best suits the powertrain needs of my combat robot while learning about motor controller pcb design and firmware development.
