Formula UFSM Team
We, from Formula UFSM, participate in the Formula SAE Brazil competition, where we develop an open-wheel Formula-type racing prototype. Each season, we strive to optimize the project by addressing issues and enhancing its performance.

This PCB design was developed in response to engine failures during a competition, necessitating an alternative to monitor the proper functioning of each cylinder in real-time. The least intrusive way to implement this instrumentation was by using thermocouples on the exhaust pipes. The thermocouples acquire temperature data to ensure proper combustion in each cylinder, serving as a basis for performance improvements in engine calibration.
The aforementioned PCB reads the thermocouples' data through filters and amplifiers, then transmits this information via CAN Bus to the ECU.

This allows us to access and log the data using the data logger. The microcontroller manages the ICs and modules, while a 12V-to-5V voltage regulator adjusts the car's operating voltage to the ICs' requirements.

Based on this system, we can monitor potential failures in real-time during vehicle tests, significantly reducing the time needed to identify the source of the problem. Additionally, it facilitates integration between the electrical and powertrain subsystems, providing valuable data to improve the car's performance.
