RTL8367S-4GE+SFP Gigabit Optical Switch

Project Overview

This project is a 4-port + 1-port Gigabit Ethernet switch, utilizing the Realtek RTL8367S chipset. It integrates a native SGMII 1.25G optical interface leading to an SFP port, making it ideal for high-speed network connections. The design employs a cost-effective double-layer PCB layout with the minimum number of peripheral components to reduce expenses.

Key Features

Single-chip 5+2 port 10/100/1000 Mbps non-blocking switch architecture

Integrated 5-Port 10/100/1000Base-T PHY for efficient connectivity

Each port supports full-duplex 10/100/1000 Mbps communication

High-speed serial SGMII interface (1.25GHz) for the optical port

Supports jumbo packet forwarding with a maximum length of 9216 bytes at wire speed

Includes Realtek Cable Test (RTCT) functionality for enhanced diagnostics

Schematic Overview:

1. DC-DC Section: This section uses the MT2492 DC-DC converter to step down the 5V USB input to 3.3V. The MT2492 is housed in a compact SOT23 package, and its peripheral circuit design is simple, eliminating the need for a freewheeling diode. This approach offers a small footprint and reduces cost.

2. 1.1V Power Supply Section:

For the 1.1V power supply, the design utilizes the on-chip integrated DC-DC output, complemented by an external 2.2uH inductor. It's essential to include a 10uF capacitor in the circuit, as it cannot be omitted for proper functionality.
