ScrewRover
Our diploma thesis entitle_d "ScrewRover" deals with the development of an automated screw fastening system for the runway lights sunk into the ground at the airfield.
Our Goal
Our goal is to develop a vehicle with which the lamps sunk into the ground at the airport are approached, the screws are automatically recognized and these are tightened with a specified torque. In addition, the system will log the torque of the bolted joint so that faulty joints can be identified early, thereby ensuring their safety and reliability.
Runway-light
A runway is exposed to strong vibrations every day, which means that the screw connections of the runway lights attached to the ground loosen after a while. Because of this, all screws must be tightened several times a year. The screws are currently tightened manually on the kilometer-long runway. These screw connections require multiple and time-consuming checks.
Our Team
We are a prospective 4-person engineering team at HTL3 Rennweg Vienna and in our forthcoming diploma thesis we want to develop an automated screw fastening system for the runway lights sunk into the ground at the airfield. To develop a Vehicle which can automate such a complex problem we will implement what we have learned in the last 4 years.
Why PCBWay is an important partner for us!
Through a sponsorship from PCBWay we would be enabled to bring our schematics quickly into reality and enable us to create an innovative solution for for the airfield.
The PCBs from PCBWay in our vehicle would include PCBs for:
1. Power management
The PCB for Power management will be switching on and off our Batteries and DC-DC-Converters to manage our battery charge smartly and only give power to devices who are needed in the moment.
2. Micro controller
The PCB for our Micro controller, which is the brain of the whole Vehicle will be managing all the PCBs and will be receiving all the information from the 3-Axis-Linear gantry and will control the entire vehicle.
3. Other PCBs
Other PCBs which might emerge from our main micro controller PCB could be for our battery-powered screwdriver or other schematics which get big and complicated enough to get their own PCB
