an independent robot for the French cup of Robotics

We take part of the French Cup of robotics in May 2016 and will be present in May 2017. The French cup of Robotics is a challenge of robotics towards teams of young people enthusiast of robotics.This meeting allows many dialogues of knowledge and know-how between students. We have to do independent robot, which must respect the rules. This robot has to do many actions like retrieves ping-pong balls.

The association, regrouping 42 members, is a part of a school composed of 1600 future engineers.  (School’s website: www.insa-strasbourg.fr). We are a non-profit association; we realize all events in favor of our sponsors. During the year we organize educational meetings with middle and high schools from the area and we are present during the open doors of the INSA of Strasbourg.We will be present, as last years, at ? Fête de la Science ? in Strasbourg from the 14th until the 16th of October 2016.

Introduction

We have to do an independent robot for the French cup of Robotics. Each year, we received new students in our association; also we have to learn the bases of electronic, mechanic and computers. Simultaneously, our year begins with the arrival of new members. Our team offers many tutorials to learn the electronic, mechanic and programming bases.  


Project Details

FRENCH CUP OF ROBOTIC
This robot has to do many actions like retrieves ping-pong balls. The Subject of this year is: The moon. Also, we will have the rules on October, and will begin the project. Each year we work in 3 parts: mechanical, electronics and programming. 
Last year weredoing this program:
First of all, we begin the mechanistic conception in order to design the fairing. 
During the design, the electronic conception is being created correlate to the programming. 
We used microcontroller PIC and ATXMega to realize each action: management of movement, captors, actuators and power. The communication was done by a Raspberry Pi 2, asmaster of communication in SPI.



TRAINING SESSION
During the training session newcomers achieve little robot name “James”, it follow a line and stop the mechanism when it touch an opponent. The electronic card has been prepared in advance, also newcomers soldered electronic elements and debug electronic card. Concurrently they prepare the mechanic design in order to print pieces on 3D. Finally they program the microcontroller.
