Industry association IPC announced today that its California Circuits Association (CCA) is in the process of establishing an educational program for printed circuit board fabrication training.

The educational program would be founded within the Rancho Santiago Community College District, which consists of two colleges and seven continuing education centers encompassing much of Central Orange County. IPC's CCA said it intends to use the district's classes that pertain to manufacturing, computer literacy and SPC programs as a foundation for the proposed certification and/or associate's degree programs.

"IPC's CCA has had meetings with representatives of Santa Ana College and Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (D-CA) for support of the program," said Dick Crowe, IPC's CCA executive director. "We all believe that this would be a highly beneficial training program to better equip students to step into the PCB industry upon graduation."

Carolyn Breeden, Santa Ana College's division dean for manufacturing technology, added, "Santa Ana College is committed to meeting the workforce needs of our business community. We're glad to explore the development of an educational program to fit the unique workforce needs of IPC's CCA member companies."

A meeting has been scheduled at TTM Technologies, Santa Ana, Calif., on June 18, 2002, at 2 p.m., for IPC's CCA member companies to measure interest in this program and tabulate a total number of student candidates before making a formal proposal to the college district.
