Weighing capacity, readout and price are important when choosing a precision balance. This accounts for the popularity of the Kern PCB models available from Tovatech. These precision scales, offered in 12 different models all with large LCD displays (see complete list of models below), are an especially attractive choice for weighing and counting applications in academic and business environments where accuracy is critical but budgets are tight.
Available in maximum weighing ranges from 100 to 10,000 grams and with readouts from 0.001 to 1 gram the easy to use Kern PCB precision balances are a good choice for recipe weighing, percentage determination and piece counting. In the latter case the minimum piece weight that can be accommodated with this series is 0.002 gram. For others the weight is 0.02, 0.2 or 2 grams. A pre-tare function discounts the container weight and a draft shield is available for models weighing to 100, 250 and 350 grams.
Other useful features include:
•Standard or battery power
•Suspended weighing
•Level bubble and adjustable feet
•Alternate weighing units (i.e. gram, ounce, pound tael and grain)
•Animal weighing (vibrations filtered to display a stable weighing result)
•Recipe weighing or net-total with the tare cup and components held in separate stores
•Programmable weighing units such as paper (g/m2) or the length of thread (g/m)
Plus these useful options:
•Rechargeable 24-hour (approx.) battery pack with user-controlled auto-off
•Protective working cover
•A second display including two data interfaces for GLP/ISO record keeping
•Standard, label and statistics printers
Setting up the Precision Balance
The PCB precision balances come with complete instructions on setting up and operating the equipment. In brief, they should be positioned on a firm level surface away from temperature extremes, drafts, high humidity, vapors, dust and direct sunlight. Objects being weighed should gently be placed on the weighing plate to avoid jarring the unit. If condensation on the unit occurs after moving it from a cold to warm location let it remain unconnected for at least two hours.
Calibration Procedures
Accurate readings require initial calibration and periodic recalibration using a separately ordered calibration weight and procedures outlined in the user manual. If there is a discrepancy between the known calibration weight and what appears on the LCD, the balance will automatically correct itself. It’s a good idea to establish recalibration procedures, make the staff aware of them and keep them in your organization’s operation manual.
When you are ready to purchase a precision balance carefully list all the functions you want to perform and include weighing capacities before making your selection. Then contact the weighing professionals at Tovatech for help in selecting and using the correct equipment for your needs.
