A PCB (printed circuit board) is used to build electronic devices and is used in almost every electronic product today. A PCB assembler puts circuit boards, cables and harnesses together by following detailed drawings and engineering instructions. This person also unpacks parts, cleans, preps, inspects and sets up the boards. He also performs electrical tests. PCB assemblers usually work for electronics and manufacturing companies.
Instructions
1 Establish whether or not you meet the minimum requirements, which means you must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED and pass a background check.
2 Develop good writing and reading-comprehension skills. You should have the ability to follow diagrams to assemble the boards. You should also have experience reading schematics and diagrams and be very detailed and organized.
3 Pass related exams to become a PCB assembler and maintain all annual soldering certifications.
4 Hone your ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings and work instructions. You must also have good vision (color and peripheral) and depth perception. In addition, you should have the ability to use hand tools and recognize values of components.
5 Secure work experience with printed circuit boards, soldering, PCB testing, wiring cable, crimp tools, machines, hardware, switches, color codes and cables. In addition, you should have knowledge of surface mount and thru-hole assembly. You will normally need anywhere from 6 months to 2 years of work experience, depending upon the location of your PCB assembler job.
