Atari 2600 Keyboard
Did you know that the Atari 2600, the very definition of 70s video game consoles, was able to run Basic and had a keyboard make for it? I didn't either until I bought one, then the required Atari CX-50 controllers - which was practically unusable despite never having been used. They were that amount of painful to use. Also, there were supposed to be keyboard overlays so that you could remember what every button is supposed to do.
Well, I designed a new one based on the old service manuals - one that uses the cheapest switches imaginable, the standard 6x6mm momentary switches and they were actually a lot better to use. Then I bought some 6x6mm keycaps for them, and the result was actually pretty enjoyable so I'm sharing the design files so that everyone can finally have an acceptable keyboard for their Atari 2600. I've created a set of faceplates as well, these mount on top of the unit and have been made reversible so that a single PCB will have two versions of the design on them. Check out Atari 2600 Keyboard for everything related to this project.
