OpenAmiga500FastRamExpansion V1
OpenAmiga500FastRamExpansion is an Open Hardware 4/8 MB Fast RAM Expansion for the Commodore Amiga 500 Computer.
Most low-end Amiga models only came with Chip RAM. "Big Box" models allowed for a different type of memory to be installed, known as Fast RAM, where fast means that it's dedicated to the main processor, so that it doesn't have to compete with the other chips in order to gain access to it (as is the case with Chip RAM). While both Chip and Fast RAM are limited in size, you can have at least a few MB of the latter on all Amigas (usually up to 8), while the former can never exceed 2 MB.
OpenAmiga500FastRamExpansion will allow you to add 4 or 8 MB of Fast RAM to your Amiga 500. This way you will be able to run more applications at once and more quickly. If you combine it with a chip RAM expansion, you will also be able to run almost all games supported by WHDLoad, pushing your Amiga to its limits. The Fast RAM will be mapped to $200000-$9fffff
($200000-$5fffff
for the 4 MB version).

You must power the chip separately. The programmer does not provide power.
Hello, yes i use external power supply at 5V power on "the big cap" pads, and im using the "better" usb blaster
I don't know then. Make sure that the socket is oriented correctly and that so is the chip.
=/ no chip, socket and IDC connector matches pictures =/ guess ill try set up a linux machine and see, maybe its the windows and libftd2xx driver thats the issue.
getting same thing on linux =/ how is bdsl path supposed to be written exatly, should it include filename? i do bsdl path /home/amiga/1502/ and have tried pretty much all different ways i can think of... does it matter that it is JU44 chip and the bsdl file is for J44? its so weird i can hardly find anyone else getting these TDO stuck at 1 errors anywhere =/ i can see activity on the powersupply so i know its trying...
Managed to program two.. perhaps i just got bad chips =/
I had 2 sets of chips to test, unluckily my 1504 chips would not detect and they looked used, my 1502s looked like new and detected no problem, I tried the 12v trick but not had any luck getting the 1504s to work
Then just don't make it and leave it to other people who find it useful. They don't have any obligations to tell me or you what they are using it for.
I want to make it but i would like to know what people use it for... Im not demanding anything. I think its quite odd for the designer(s) to share all the hard work and not really explain what you could use it for. If this was for the A600 (and i have seen a design for that), it would prove much more useful as there already has an IDE built in. Is there a way to get an IDE for A500, perhaps with another circuit? If im sounding critical its only because want to make it but need more information first.
This is just a simple RAM expansion, every user might need it for different reasons, there isn't a single intended purpose the designer has to tell users. If you are only interested in using it with an HD, it is known to work well with this one, but I'm sure there are alternatives: https://www.pcbway.com/project/shareproject/Amiga_500_IDE_Emulator.html. You can also use it with the SdBox, for instance.
Go to github and click on Releases. You are welcome.
Ah yes. I found it. Thank you!
Yes, unfortunately this is expected, see https://github.com/SukkoPera/OpenAmiga500FastRamExpansion#limitations. You can try using the non-AutoConfig firmware and adding the RAM manually.
