Versatile Linear DC Power Supply Module
A small, simple PCB to build a variety of DC Power Supplies up to 1 Amp. They can be either regulated (using 78xx or 78Lxx regulators), filtered un-regulated or unfiltered rectified supplies.
Almost all parts on this board have options. Refer to the schematic.
J1 and J2 are standard terminal blocks with 5.08mm spacing (0.2"). They can be left out and instead input and aout can be wired directly. There are holes near the connection points to facilitate strain relief.
D1-D4 implement a bridge rectifier. These can be 1N400X diodes for 1 amp of current, or 1N4148/1N914 for lower current needs. Your choice.
D5 is to protect the regulator should it be connected to a voltage higher than its output. It can be left out if that is not a danger, or if you choose not to use a regulator it can be replace by a wire jumper to pass the rectified voltage to the output pin.
C4, C3 and C2 are the filter capacitor. The only reason 3 capacitors are shown is so that 3 different sized patterns and pin-spacings can be provided to accommodate whatever size capacitor you need.
U1 and U2 are the regulators. Only one is used for a regulated supply. Use a 78XX series for outputs up to 1A or use a 78LXX series for outputs under 100mA. Or leave them out if you do not want regulation.
There is allowance on the board for inclusion of a heatsink of the type shown here:https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DBHDpNX
C1 is a 0.1uF ceramic capacitor and is only required if you are installing a regulator.
Keep in mind that these regulators have about 2V dropout so make sure the transformer and filter capacitor combination you use will provide a filtered supply such that the ripple does not drop below Vout + 2V (i.e. if Vout is 12V then the ripple of the unregulated supply should not drop below 14V).
