10x10 QFP PROTOTYPE BOARD Rev.A
A prototype board for lots of SMD components.
When prototyping these days is not easy to just get a bread board and plug things in. Surface mount packages requires breadboard adapters to be used. On the internet usually I only find QFP or SOIC to DIP adapters where all pins are routed to the border headers. Everybody building circuits know that not all pins are going to be used and that decoupling capacitors are better to be put as closed to the IC as possible.
I designed this board taking all that in consideration and much more.
The board is designed based on the standard 100x100mm surface and using two layer design.
This board is part of a series of boards that I am sharing with you all sharing the same basic layout in order to help with mix an match as needed.
Now for the details:
The board is split into four quadrants and there are some guide lines to help you cut it if you need.
This prototype board has different areas that can accommodate different chips:
- QFP32-144 0.5mm pitch
- QFP32-80 0.8mm pitch
- QFP16-80 0.65mm pitch
- QFP32-64 0.8mm pitch
- all the pins are wired to the pads
- multiple headers single line are mounted in different places on the board. They can be used for connectors or to mount any other daughter card on top or below. These resemble the IF word.
- Plenty of pads are left unconnected for soldering passive components as: SMD resistors, capacitors, diodes, etc. SMD transistors can be soldered on diagonal using three pads. This allows you to wire the circuit as needed and you can build the whole prototype with no need to use adapters and bread boards.
- The pads are extended to the edges to allow for soldering of dual line header connectors.
And that is not all. If your project is not big enough to use the entire area then look for small lines that I put in specific places which will allow you to easily score and cut the board in smaller and still usable prototype boards. These small boards can be stack up on each other as needed
If your project do not fit on this board then use two of them and stack them up. There is a reason why the IC pins are not wired directly to any of the trough hole pads.
There is still more I can talk about this board capabilities and as this is meant as a prototype board use your imagination and make it yours.
All the vias are design with soldering in mind and 30 gauge (wrapping wire) can be soldered to them providing an easy way to bring the pins to the border. Also you will find them very usefull when testing the soldering of the ICs on the board.
