Air Mouse for Essential Tremor Patients
My project is about helping patients with hand essential tremor by allowing them to practice controlling a mouse cursor. The idea is to have them guide the cursor along a line or other shapes, like curves, to help reduce handshaking through practice and feedback. I decided to make this project because people with tremors often struggle with fine motor tasks, and this could provide a fun way to train their hands to stay steadier over time.
How it works:
The project uses an MPU6050 sensor, which tracks hand movements through gyroscope data, sending that data to the RP2040 microcontroller. The sensor acts like a motion detector, translating hand motion into mouse movement. As the user moves their hand, the system controls the cursor on a screen. The goal is to help them practice by moving the cursor precisely along a predefined path, encouraging better control over time.
I've also created a Web page where there are 3 levels, Straight line, Square Line, Spiral Line. The user should start by pointing the mouse cursor at the start of line and should maintain by moving the cursor along the line. If the cursor comes out of line boundary, an warning pops out saying "Cursor Outside the line". It helps patients to control tremor and complete the level. The needed image proofs are added below.
It’s a way to give tremor patients a tool to practice and improve their hand coordination in a simple, interactive way.
