Morse Code Keyer, Rev: 7
This is a keyer that I designed to be used with a "sideswiper" or "cootie" Morse Code sending key. The circuit includes a PICAXE microcontroller, a twin-T tone oscillator, and an audio amplifier. When an attached sideswiper key is operated, the keyer circuit responds by generating dots or dashes depending upon the direction that the sideswiper paddle is pushed. The dots and dashes can be heard thanks to the included tone oscillator and an external low impedance speaker. The volume and tone are adjustable by turning built-in potentiometers. Simultaneously, the dot and dash signals are used to cause an external amateur (ham) radio transmitter to be "keyed" on and off, thus sending Morse Code. The speed of the code is adjustable by turning a built-in potentiometer. The PCB is sized so that the entire assembled circuit can be attached to the top cover of a sideswiper key from cwmorse.us. All components are through-hole devices so there is plenty of room for soldering.
