Open Air Quality Monitor
OpenAQM, short for Open Air Quality Monitor, is a groundbreaking open-source device designed to monitor air quality with precision and reliability. At its core, it integrates various sensors such as the PMS5003 for PM2.5 measurement, MQ131 for gas detection, DHT22 for temperature and humidity sensing, MH-Z19B for CO2 monitoring, and MP503 for VOC detection. This comprehensive array of sensors ensures that OpenAQM provides a holistic view of air quality, capturing crucial data points for analysis and action.
One of the key features of OpenAQM is its embedded LoRa module, which employs a peer-to-peer algorithm to establish a mesh network. This network enables seamless communication between nearby nodes, allowing for efficient data transmission even in challenging environments. Data collected by individual nodes is relayed to the gateway, which utilizes a WiFi connection to push the information to the cloud. This cloud connectivity ensures real-time access to air quality data, facilitating timely decision-making and intervention.
Powering OpenAQM is the ESP32 Pico D4 microcontroller, renowned for its performance and versatility in IoT applications. To ensure continuous operation, the device harnesses solar energy for charging. A sophisticated power management chip controls the input and output of power, optimizing energy utilization and extending the device's lifespan. This sustainable approach to power provision makes OpenAQM ideal for deployment in remote or off-grid locations where traditional power sources may be limited.
Moreover, OpenAQM boasts ease of use and customization, thanks to its open-source firmware available on GitHub. This accessibility allows developers and enthusiasts to tailor the device to their specific needs, whether it be adding new sensors, modifying algorithms, or integrating with other systems. By fostering a collaborative community of users and contributors, OpenAQM continually evolves to meet the evolving demands of air quality monitoring.
