Rear differential Model
The parts required for this model are listed.
- The Ring gear, pinion gear, spider gears, spacers and support arms are all required parts.
- The crank handle is optional - it can be used to rotate the model, otherwise just turn the shaft with your hands.
- The left, right and drive axle are needed for the model to work. You can 3D print them using the files provided or you can simply make them at home from a metal rod. If you wish to make them from metal rod, see the dimensions I used further in this article.
- The base plate hole template is optional, it can be used to drill the holes in the correct position in your wooden support base, but you can otherwise move the parts around to find the optimal position.
- The hole templates for the axles are optional. If, like me, you make the axel rods at home from metal rod, then you can slide the rod inside this template and the holes will align with where you need to drill. Ensure the end of the rod is pushed fully inside the template, the end of the rod should align with the end of the template with the notch.
I used 5mm diameter, mild steel rods for the axles. I used a 2mm drill bit for the holes.
The two side axles were 100mm long each
The drive axle was 60mm long
The two spider axles were 27mm long each
I used M2 bolts + nuts to hold them parts in position, but you could also just use some wire or a paperclip and twist hold them.
You will also need 9x bearings (605RS) 5mm x 14mm x 5mm
I used 12 screws to hold down the support arms
There is also a tyre STL file, but it's too large to upload to PCBWAY projects, you can access it here
