The Amazing PCB Flute
This flute is an innovative and attractive product for kids to build it, achieving it by having amazing features like:
- Wireless connectivity by Bluetooth
- Wireless connectivity by Wi-Fi
- MP3 files player
- MIDI player
- Ability of recording and playing your own sounds
- Socket for micro sd card
- Buzzer
- Real time voice modulation and sound effects
- 8 illuminated push-buttons, like a real flute has ( Do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, si, do’ )
- Open source
- Volume modulation
- OLED screen to make its use easier
Like we have already said in the features description, this is a full electronic flute with wireless connectivity, being able to record and play sounds. The aim of this flute is to be a completely operating instrument to be used in a educational or even entertainment scenario, like the traditional one would.
So, how? Here is where the VS1053b chip comes. We have learnt that it is able to reproduce several file extension types, including “.mp3” and “.ogg”(this last one is the extension it records the files with). The files we want to play will be saved in the micro SD card, and also the files it saves.
Adding an OLED screen it will show us useful information from the flute’s status and the sounds we are playing.
Here you can see all the components:
- PRO MICRO Arduino
- ESP8266 wifi module
- HC-05 bluetooth module
- Lipo battery 3,7V
- Pressure sensor MPXV7002DP
- Audio amplifier PAM8403
- Chip VS1053b
- Two potentiometer (volume and effect)
- Micro SD socket
- OLED screen
- Eight illuminated buttons
- Flute’s PCB
We use Arduino core as main microcontroller.
For the design of the PCB we have used the program of design “Eagle”. Also, we have used programs as “Fritzing” for the schematic wiring of some tests.
-Inspiration
We just needed to discover amazing devices like Makeymakey and Fenderino to know that we wanted to develop something even better with educational and artistic purposes.
-Parts
It will use a Pro Micro as microcontroller, with an audio codec microchip (VS1053b) and an specific air flow pressure sensor.
-Scenario (Uses and people who would use it)
It is going to be a project destined to educational purposes, so the main idea is for it to be easy to build, and of course low cost and open source developed.
-Main great features
One of the great things about this project is the wireless connectivity we have included. It will make it possible to control the device from a smart device via bluetooth and an easy app developed just for it. Thanks to the audio codec microchip we will be able to play different sounds, not just the fluty or drummy ones, turning them into a kind of synthesizers too. We add MIDI connetivity too.
