Atari STE CPU PLCC68 to DIP64 adapter
This board lets you make a PLCC68 plug to fit in the STE's CPU socket.
It relocates the CPU and converts it to DIP64 to allow either the use of a traditional 68000 or one of the many expansions that assume a DIP64 configuration.
If using SIL socket strip for the DIP64 part, resistor networks may be fitted beneath the new CPU to strengthen the STE's bus pull-ups and improve stability.
Vertical clearance is extremely tight in the STE, fitting a socket or SIL socket strip will only allow the CPU to be fitted, to use other expansions, boards should be directly soldered to ensure vertical clearance (approximately 12-14mm is available).
This board was featured in a PCBWay sponsored video: https://youtu.be/LUlBvfj2VgM
REQUIRED:
4x 1x17-way 1.27mm pin headers
2x 0805 100nF MLC capacitors
2x 0805 1uF MLC capacitors
OPTIONAL:
2x 1x32-way SIL turned pin headers sockets
5x 8-way 3k3 common terminal through-hole resistor networks (9 pins)
RECOMMENDED:
3D-printed backing square to tension the PLCC68 emulator pins
