  • Quite unbelievable, but... On Zimmers.net there isn't the C64 PLA image!!! There's a "pla.901664-01.bin" (that doesn't work of course) but there isn't any "906114-01.bin". I also checked a copy of zimmers.net I downloaded years ago, but there isn't. There are other references about the PLA but not the bin needed for programming the eprom. Please, oh please, If you have the 906114-01.bin, can you attach it here? I got your boards (I also used one to fix a CBM, as documented below) but I need to fix a C64 and I'm stuck here due to lack of binary image file...

Forget it. The "pla.901664-01.bin" on Zimmers.net is exactly the same of "906114-01.bin". It didn't work because I made a mistake, I used a 104 (100 nF) capacitor instead of the 68 pF as marked in the BOM (since I haven't a 68 pF, I used a 47 pF and it seems to work fine too).

  • I tested on a CBM 8296 with a ST 27C512 and I can confirm it works on the Commodore Business line too (not a surprise, of course, since the PLA architecture should be the same on C64, 264 series (C16, Plus/4 and C116), CBM 8296 etc.

Very pleased to get the feedback , it is nice to know that it will work in some of the other commodore machines as well!

  • What about adding a possiblyu need CasRam Delay between pins 14 and 18? I keep hearing that's critical for some boards...your thoughts?

Ras is the one that tends to cause problems , cas is not delayed in the PLA.

  • The above chips are undoubtedly knockoffs however they have been tested and work very well as E/PROM based PLA substitutes. If you show online sellers these photos and ask specifically for chips with these printed markings most will be able to supply you. These are very common and in sufficient quantities.... I am absolutely positive there are other chips that will work as well that have not been evaluated as yet.... I got the above chips from these sites (but not limited to).... https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32708644492.html?spm=a2g0s.12269583.0.0.3ecc17edd4kd9b https://bestway-ic.en.alibaba.com/
