Fiber Optic UART and PWM
Fiber Optic UART and PWM for Arduino and Ardupilot
Since there is no really good fiber optic converters I've decided to build my own. It is suitable for both Arduino experiments and industrial use(with a change of PCB, maybe)
Initially this device was made to provide a surge-safe conditions to autopilots, working in a complex EMI environment, but it is also an open-source converter to make you own fiber optic full-duplex transceivers for up to 1 km(and even more - untested).
Pinout-compatible for such configurations:
- As an APM2.6/Pixhawk/Navio UART board, which allows to put your autopilot in a safe box(see pictures)
- As RC-PWM transmitter(or receiver) - to control servos, ESCs by the huge distances - great for testing purposes, you can leave the dangerous room with a high-power motor and control it outside.
- As a fiber-optic USB-UART converter - FT232 included.
