RF Mesh Network for Post-Disaster Rescue
My project is about creating a low-power mesh network using RF technology to assist in search and rescue operations after earthquakes. The goal is to enable communication over long distances, even through rubble, using affordable devices that can help locate and communicate with survivors trapped under debris.
I decided to work on this because earthquakes are a major disaster, and one of the most challenging aspects of rescue operations is finding and communicating with people who are trapped. I wanted to create a simple, effective solution that could improve the speed and efficiency of these operations and ultimately save lives.
The system works by deploying devices equipped with 433 MHz RF modules, which can communicate with each other across a network. These devices broadcast signals at random intervals, forming a low-power mesh that allows data transmission over long distances. Rescue teams can then use the collected data to map the locations of trapped individuals and quickly provide assistance. The devices are designed to have long battery life and small size, making them ideal for post-disaster scenarios.
