  • I finished building the Retrowiz VGA game device and it works! See attached pictures. I used solder paste and a hot air gun to solder all the smd parts but had trouble with the reset switch because I was afraid to plastic might melt. As a result there was a path for the current to flow from R3 to GND resulting in the AVR to be permanently in reset mode. I redid the switch with a soldering iron (still difficult) and the problem went away. I also programmed the AVR using my STK600 + TQFP32 adapter before soldering, to minimize potential problems. I programmed the Pacman binary, as included with the retrowiz release (also attached) and set the fuses properly (specifically clear the DIV8 fuse and set the full swing crystal fuse). Once the board was working, I tested the ISP connection (pin 1 of the ISP header is next to R10, not obvious) and it worked great. All in all, I am pleased with the result though there are definitely software bugs in the Pacman game, where pacman is allowed to go outside of the maze. Hopefully I can find time in the future to fix these. Many thanks to Jaromir Dvorak, the designer and coder of this project. JdR (Dutchtronix)

  • Hi, Alexiev. The link to the software (retrowiz-src.zip) don't work anymore. Do you have another link? The creator of this project, Jaromir Dvorak, aka Jerry, is very difficult to find! jrseattle

Do you have a copy of the file Eagle.zip? The images on the backup website don't load anymore.
