Ventbot: warm side cool, cool side warm
This project page is somewhat obsolete. You probably want to refer to this later project page instead: https://www.pcbway.com/project/shareproject/Ventbot_a_DIY_HVAC_Vent_Booster_Warm_Side_Cool_Cool_Side_Warm_76e090b7.html
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a common problem: upstairs rooms in my house are too cold in winter. Now that I have air conditioning, those same rooms are too warm in the summer. I'm trying my hand at making my own register boosters to try to fix that. This is way outside my area of expertise, even as a hobby, but the design turned out pretty nicely.
The design is controlled by an ESP32 and uses a temperature sensor to detect when the furnace or air conditioner is blowing warm or cool air. From 1 to 4 PWM PC case fans can be spun up to provide the boost. Since the firmware is coded with ESPHome, it can integrate easily into Home Assistant for monitoring or control, but it will also operate just fine standalone. Builders can make their own selection of PC case fans to trade off size, noise, price, etc. Configuration within the ESPHome config file also allows for a customizable, table-driven ramp-up and ramp-down of the fans to avoid "audio shock".
I'm in the final phases of testing and documenting the project, but I already know it works.
