  • Hi, thanks for sharing these projects for c64, I've made the tapecart and it works perfectly. Regarding cupcake-cart, does it work on c128? Is there a way to burn a diagnostic cartridge into the eprom? Thanks again for all your contributions!

    (DIY) C64iSTANBUL 2023-12-02 02:00:16Reply

Hi. Unfortunately I don't have a C128 so I don't know the answer to your question. Cupcake-64K cartridge has a sensitive timing and may not work. Thank you for asking.

  • Hello. Do you have a IC programmer file for programming the eeproms? Fantastic work you have done in supporting Commodore systems.

  • NO schematics? I like to try an understand how the board works. I am building one up now.

    (DIY) C64iSTANBUL 2023-09-26 08:29:47Reply

There is no schematics. But it is not very complex, most traces are standard 8-Bit data and address traces. You can easily solve and draw schematics.

  • Very nice design! What's the deal with skipping through hole pads? You'll only be able to solder to the pad itself, which is then more prone to get damaged. If - as usual - leaving pads on both sides you'll have plated holes in which the solder will attach as well, making a better product. It's not possible to plate a hole without metal around it on both sides.

Thank you. This type of pads are old school, but no longer useful nowadays. Maybe it can help a little if it is necessary to desolder the ICs. I do not think, this is more prone to later damage, I have 40 year old circuits still working like this one, it is like one layer PBC. But, I will think to change it. :)

  • Hi, first of all thank you for your fantastic work, I tried to send you an email a few days ago but not having received an answer i post here ... Unfortunately it doesn't work for me, the c64 shows a blue screen without any writing or characters, same colors as the classic home screen when we power up the c64. The bin file work without problem with a normal 8 kb cart (of corse only with a little prg less than 8kb), i see that in PCB there are some jumper and the Exrom and Game are short at the same time, is it correct? For all interested, the joiner2020 works fine with pi1541, also with jiffy. Thanks a lot

Hello Marco, I answered your e-mail. Sorry for the late answer. . I examined the photo, I can not see any thing wrong on the upper side. I think, There can be 2 reasons of the problem. 1) Do you use an original PLA chip in your commodore 64 ? If PLA is not original that may cause problem. 2) Some chinese 4516 chips can cause problem, chip timings may not be correct, that can be a reason. . The jumpers on PCB are correct, there is no need to change them. . Can you please build another PCB and try different brand 4516 chips ? .Please write me the results. . Thank you.

Thanks for support, i have already made another cart with different Eprom and cd4516 but same problem, all the cd4516be come from aliexpress and for this reason yesterday i have bought one genuine piece from Europe, i will test as soon as I receive it and i will post here the result. Thanks a lot.

    yes the pla is original

Update! Some days ago i have received a 4516 from fairchild (don't know if original or not) and still doesn't work, for this reason i decided to buy from Mouser 10 genuine CD4516 TI ic, today i have received the ics and it works perfect!!! Thanks a lot Marco

  • if you want to add more than one prg file to the rom do you just take off the first 2 bytes and add it to the end of the last program file

    (DIY) C64iSTANBUL 2020-10-02 05:26:43Reply

I am sorry no. Actually this cartridge is designed for only one .prg file. If you want to add more than one .prg file to the rom then you should prepare a single .prg file with a menu and then you do the regular procedure. To prepare a single .prg file with a menu, there is joiner2020.prg (it is a beta-test version) in the zip file, (@ key saves the single file to disk). Or you can search internet for this kind of better utility program. Thank you.

thanks for the reply i still think its a very good project and have order a few boards to give it go and will look into making a single prg with a menu system

    Stephen Mason 2020-10-02 18:00:28Reply

Would there be any documents for the joiner program on its use

    (DIY) C64iSTANBUL 2020-10-04 00:02:11Reply

I am sorry no, there is not any documents for joiner2020.prg . But it is not hard to use; copy joiner2020.prg and the other programs in to a diskette. Then run joiner2020.prg and load the programs via joiner2020.prg then at the end press "@" key. (Total file size must not be more than about 55-60KB.)

    Stephen Mason 2020-10-04 21:28:53Reply

Hi have tried that wish i could post pics as the first program seems to load in as small stars seem to count along and then the program asks again for program name and after typing press enter and the outer border of the screen looks like it is loading a fast load program and stays like that forever if you dont turn it off

    (DIY) C64iSTANBUL 2020-10-04 22:13:11Reply

Hi, "joiner2020.prg" is not a very stable program. Please use real 1541 drive, do not use any fastloaders or different kernal ROMs, and please use standart C64 file names. If you zip and e-mail your files to me I can try for you, c64istanbul@bikom.com

    Stephen Mason 2020-10-05 04:27:04Reply

Hi thanks for letting me know the joiner program requires a 1541 drive mine no longer works and use a sd2iec drive so that would explain the reason why it does not work would there be any other program you know of that may do the same job would just like to say thanks for all your help it much appreciated thank you

  • Any suggested 3d printed cases for use with the PCB? We're having 30 run, looking forward to using them!

    (DIY) C64iSTANBUL 2020-07-23 04:52:38Reply

Hi Corey, you can try this, https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4002142 , if you did not use IC sockets many standart box should do the job, like this; https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:692797 Thank you very much.

  • Can you allow the gerber download? I want PBC ways to assemble it, and they these files thanks.

    (DIY) C64iSTANBUL 2020-05-15 18:16:16Reply

I am sorry, I can not understand why do you need gerbers. Can you please explain via e-mail: c64istanbul@bikom.com

    (DIY) C64iSTANBUL 2020-05-15 23:32:47Reply

I am not sharing gerbers, because I do not want them printed out of PCBWay. Some people can download gerbers and print them from different PCB companies.

is there a way to load these .bins on Vice 3.1, I wanted to test them? I don't seem to have any luck

    (DIY) C64iSTANBUL 2020-05-14 17:06:55Reply

I am sorry, no. VICE does not recognize this cartridge at present. If you send me your binary file via e-mail I can try it for you. c64istanbul@bikom.com

  • Hi! Very nice project! I love it!. Could i use the starter with an exomized prg (minus two bytes as descibed) to produce a "normal" 8K eprom bin? Thanks a lot!

  • Thank you for your participation in our 3rd PCB Design Contest. 7 Tips On How To Make Your PCB Entries Stand Out 1.Choose the appropriate color of soldermask and silkscreen for your PCB project. 2.In addition to the PCB images generated by our website, you can upload more photos of the project. 3.The more detailed project’s description is, the better judges and other makers understand it. FYI, it is a good idea to insert a video, currently our platform supports “YouTube” and “Vimeo”. 4.Open for Gerber download and BOM download. 5.Frequently share your entries to your social media and some open source forums, allowing more people to vote your entry, like it, download the Gerber file and also place orders for your work. 6.After uploading your entry, please constantly pay attention to its page. There will be other makers asking questions about your PCB project, and timely responses and multiple interactions will be additional points. 7.Earn PCBWay Beans for participating in this contest: *Submit a project entry: 100 Beans *A complete introduction(Including BOM, project guide, code files, production and marketing plans): 200 - 500 Beans *With video introduction: 1,000 Beans
