Raspberry Pi Powered iMac G3 Stylised monitor
If you follow me or Jonas (@retrogame.evo) then you've seen this popping up time and time again, we've been working on this awesome little display for your desk!
Here are the files to print your very own Raspberry Pi powered, iMac G3 inspired miniature display / retro gaming machine
It all fits together easily and it's fairly self explanatory, but I'll go over the basics
In the Files there are:
Top
Bottom
Raspberry Pi stand - the bracket that holds it in place
Screen surround - there are 2 versions, one is flat like in the image the other curves in towards the screen slightly, a little more refined but hard to get smooth on a filament printer
Stand - clicks into the bottom to angle the monitor
here's a parts list to get you started:
- Raspberry pi 3B (plus SD card to flash retropi)
- screen 5” 4:3 screen with input PCB from aliexpress usually (ZJ050NA-08C)
- a piece of acrylic is a good idea to protect the screen - 1mm thickness, this slides in front of the display
.
- HDMI angle bracket (to link raspberry pi to screen HDMI port)
- screws + inserts if you want!
- 12V 3amp PSU for screen
Assembly
Before you start assembling, make sure your Raspberry Pi is set up, install Retroarch or your favourite OS, get it connected to your Wi-Fi, connect some controllers, make sure it all works right, you can do all of this once it's been assembled too but I'd rather make sure it's all good first!
Start with the base, you need to insert the display pcb in the bottom section and screw it into place
There is a Raspberry Pi plate included in the print files which slides in over the rear screw posts and above the display PCB which you can attach your Raspberry Pi to - the posts are aligned to all fit the 3B, but you can use to to attach to just 2 screw posts on a 4th Gen or on a Zero 2 w if you prefer
next, connect the screen to the front section and attach the button board to the top segment
Screw it all together!
Now attach the stand to the bottom by clicking it into place, this can flip all the way forward or back for two different angles depending on if you want it flat or angled up
Lastly, if you want to attach them, there are some small accessory plates included in the files that stick to the front and emulate the look of the original G3 speaker placement on the front, they just stick on, but you can print them to match the colour of the back for a nice finish
