GachaSP CNC
A highly requested update to the GachaSP that allows for CNC manufacture! This version can be made through PCBway in any material, but I highly recommend an anodised aluminium as pictured - it's beautiful and feels really nice in the hand!
While you can still use the standard middle section from the final release, I don't recommend it as you will need to trim it by hand and make some minor cuts, the one included here should fall straight into place and screw together nicely, the technical drawings for the screws are included with the files which should make manufacture seamless.
I'm so happy this silly project idea has grown into something that so many people are enjoying and I'm glad I can share it like this so you can get your own! I'm really proud of how it's come along and despite some setbacks and issues, I think I can FINALLY say it's finished.
Bill of Materials:
- GachaSP Top shell (Manufactured to your choice)
- GachaSP CNC compatible middle - or a heavily modified original
- An OEM or Third Party GBA CP Rear Shell and Triggers
- A Gameboy Advance SP or a third party PCB designed to the same shell (eg. Zarcade's Raspberry Pi Powered Console)
- The Button PCB from Jonas (Retrogame.evo) available here: https://www.pcbway.com/project/shareproject/Custom_button_board_for_GachaSP_fa33171a.html
- Optional - The Custom buttons which are available for this project, they are slightly taller versions of the original SP buttons - not strictly necessary but make it more comfortable for prolonged sessions
- I highly recommend using thin enamel wire, it makes the soldering process so much easier!
- Small square speaker for the bottom such as this - https://tinyurl.com/yfa7jfbb (I did manage to squeeze a nintendo switch speaker behind my screen, but it isn't really designed for it, do this at your own risk!)
Disclaimer: This is a DIY project, with parts manufactured by a third party, while every effort has been made to ensure the product you receive will be of the highest quality, I can’t guarantee longevity of threaded parts, suitability for long term usage etc I bear no responsibility for your console or any damage you may incur attempting this mod.
