DIY fiberglass RC car (Mad Max-inspired)
I made this car in 2015, after watching Mad Max: Fury Road.
I'm a big fan of post-apocalyptic movies and I got intrigued by so many mad things in the movie and thought how I could use some ideas in some project... And I like very much vehicles with tank tracks... so the Peacemaker stayed in my mind.
I spent many hours designing and deciding some details that my version of Peacemaker should have in relation to the original Peacemaker. I kept some key features, and created some custom details. I named my Peacemaker as Mad Mech.
The work was all manual. The body was made of fiberglass, applied over a cardboard mold made of pizza boxes. LOL
To give it smooth finish, I apply body filler over the fiberglassing and spent a few hours sanding.
The chassis was made with an aluminum sheet (2mm thick), cut by hand with utility knife.
The tank tracks are from Vex.
To give it a more post-apocalyptic look I made some ornaments with chopsticks.
All parts were spray-painted using techniques to try to give a post-apocalyptic damaged look.
It's remote controlled, using a controller also made by me. The car and the remote both are based on Arduino and NRF24L01 modules.
Even after four years, I still have a great time playing with this car. Today my four year old son also plays with it.
Here is a nice video of my creation in action... please take a look, and if you like it, please consider subscribing to my YouTube channel.
