EMMC test board adapter for Z3X box (first revision)
eMMC test board adapter was developed specifically for owners of the Z3X box (for the first revision box), which is used in the repair of mobile phones.
Adapter allows to work with eMMC/MCP memory IC's in BGA169/153, BGA162/186, BGA221, BGA529 packages.
The adapter can operate in two modes:
1) IO/ISP mode: Connection to Z3X box. Adapter can be powered both from the box itself, and from the computer’s USB port or from the 5V power supply. In this case possible to work with the eMMC via 1-bit bus.
Following functions are available in this mode:
- recovery firmware eMMC controller
- work with EXT CSD register block
- resizing eMMC partitions
- full erasing and formatting eMMC partitions
- read/write/erase ROM2 and ROM3 partitions
- read/write/erase ROM1 (Main User Data) partition
- creation and work with GP partitions
Adapter allows to work with eMMC IC's in-circuit (ISP mode).
2) USB mode: Adapter directly connects to the computer through via USB port without a Z3X box. In this case available work with ROM1 (Main User Data) partition - read/write/erase/format. eMMC connects to USB port via a card reader single chip GL827L on 8-bit bus, thereby increasing read/write speed, which saves time when working with large amounts of data. It is possible to use the adapter as an ordinary microSD/TF card reader. For this purpose, the board have microSD/TF connector.
Adapter board there are switches for the supply voltage eMMC: Vccq 1.2/1.8 /2.8/3.3v, VCC 2.8/3.3v. All adapter work modes have a LED indications.
Adapter board does not contain scarce and high-priced parts. BOM reference
Photo of the assembled adapter (this is a photo of an early revision of the board, which i use in my job. New revision does not have any fundamental differences, only some cosmetic). The photo shows that there is no GL827L IC installed on the board (since I do not use the USB mode. I do not need it yet).
