Electronic Enclosure applied for electronic projects
Introduction
When designing electronics, the enclosure plays a crucial role that is often overlooked. In addition to protecting sensitive components on printed circuit boards (PCBs) from dust, moisture, and physical damage, an electronic enclosure offers additional benefits that go far beyond protection.
A well-designed enclosure makes it easier to handle and organize components, while improving the aesthetics and usability of the device.
This is especially important for projects that require frequent user interaction, such as IoT devices, embedded systems, and prototypes in the validation phase. Electronic enclosures also contribute to heat dissipation, integration of buttons, LEDs, and connectors, and ensure efficient and safe assembly. By investing time in developing a custom enclosure, you not only improve the durability of your project, but also add value to the final product by optimizing its functionality and appearance.
In this documentary article we will present this electronic housing that can be used for an infinite number of projects and you will have access to all the files to manufacture with 3D printing, here at PCBWay.
Project Objective
We have developed a versatile electronic housing that can be used in a variety of electronic projects. In addition to having a compact design, this housing has access points for circuit ventilation and also has holes in the electronic cover. This allows it to be used in numerous projects that require the use of gas sensors to monitor the environment.
Below, we will present all the materials needed to build the structure.
Materials Used
To develop this electronic enclosure you must use the following materials:
SLA 3D Printing - Body Electronic Enclosure
SLA 3D Printing - Cover Electronic Enclosure
04 x Screws 2 mm
08 x Inserction Nut 2 mm for screws
Technical Specifications
The dimensions of the electronic enclosure are shown below.
A very important point to consider is the size of the printed circuit board. To help you develop your circuit board from this electronic housing, we provide a model with the maximum external dimensions for you to consider during the development process of your PCB.
These dimensions are shown below and we provide the file with the outline for you to import into the outline layer for your printed circuit board design.
In the attachments of this article you can find the .dxf file with the above outline. Nexr, we present the nut insert.
Heat Set Nut
The screw fastening system uses heat-set insert nuts. The insert nut used is shown below.
The insert nut used has the following dimensions:
- Outer diameter 5 mm
- Length 5 mm
- Thread M2
The electronic board fixing system and electronic housing closure consists of 2 M2 screws. Below we present the 2 screws and their respective measurements.
Screws
The electronic enclosure uses 2 screws: one to close the electronic enclosure, and the other to fix the electronic board to the structure. Next we have the M2 x 8mm screw. It will be used to fix the printed circuit board to the electronic housing structure.
The other screw is M2 x 10 mm. It is used to close the electronic enclosure.
Below we will present the assembly structure of the electronic enclosure with the screws and the insertion nut.
Assembly Process
The assembly process is very simple and is represented by the structure below. 8 insert nuts are used: one for fixing the printed circuit board screws and another for fixing the cover closing screws.
The electronic housing presented can be used in a variety of applications. Its assembly process is very simple and you can use PCBWay's manufacturing services right now to manufacture it with quality 3D printing and industrial finish.
Do you want parts with a finish similar to thermoplastic injection? Print with PCBWay at a low price, with a variety of materials and quality.
The project was tested on the bench and showed excellent results after 3D print process with FDM 3D Printer.
