  • loving the work C64.. QQ is this the same as the "SC2IEC with Browser" with the exception of the ROM image being different?

    (DIY) C64iSTANBUL 2024-02-24 21:33:59Reply

No, it's not the same. Only the SD2iEC part is the same, the rest is completely different.

    MATTHEW WATERFALL 2024-02-25 18:33:57Reply

Thanks for the feedback, yeap looked at that yesterday and saw SD2IEC the same.. i'll get some new 74xx chips ordered. :)

  • Hello, Have put two of these together, with ATMEGA 644P. Fastload works on both, however get a device error when attempting to access the SD card. Reset works fine, so communication via cable is sound. Any ideas much appreciated.

    (DIY) C64iSTANBUL 2023-08-11 03:57:08Reply

    1. Double check IEC connection: cable/socket, 2. Double check if any excessive solder or solder residue(balls etc) is shorting anything. 3. Did you correctly set fuses or get any error while programming Atmega microcontroller?

    Engineer 2023-08-18 17:26:16Reply

Thank you for your help. I have double checked the soldering and also the IEC connection (DIM and 6 pin connector on PCB). When programming the ATMEGA 644P, I set the fuses as demonstrated on this page. I can send you pictures of the PCB if that would help.

  • Hi, My name is Sephy. First I'd like to thank you for your wonderful work. Please help me: I have built this circuit according this web page. Fastloader is working fine. sd2iec is not working correctly. I can SOMETIMES get the directory, it writes the dir output very slowly on the screen, and I cannot get anything to load properly. What am I missing? What am i doing wrong?

    liquias 2023-08-02 00:35:02Reply

Found the problem! I did not set the fuses properly. Must have selected a wrong clock for the ATMEGA1284P. Strange, it did work enough to SOMETIMES show directory and writing the contents to screen (very very slowly). However, nothing could load at all. I can further confirm that ATMEGA1284P Works well and you can substitute 33pF caps with 22pF caps, and also 0.47uF cap with 0.68uF cap (I used all ceramic). Thanks again. Great project :) Please keep up the good work! Cheers, Sephy.

  • Hi, can you please tell me what kind of 6 pin connector must be used? The white one on the left of the AT1284P. Is that a 6 pin JST-XH 2.54 connector?

    (DIY) C64iSTANBUL 2023-05-11 10:08:37Reply

Yes, it is a 6 pin JST-XH 2.54 connector. You can also use a 6 pin 2.54mm pitch male header or solder the wires directly. Thank you for asking.

Ceramic or electrolytic capacitors should do the job. If you are using a polarized capacitor, the negative pin is the pin on the connector side.

  • Hi. May I use ATMEGA644P (including "P" at the ond of name string) ? I know that there are two main types: Atmega 644 and 644P. I'm nut sure if available / compiled firmware could work with both mentioned IC's. Thank you for your feedback. Mariusz

Hello Mariusz, ATMEGA644PA works, you may use ATMEGA644PA . Thank you for asking

Hi Denis Fellmann, I am not sharing gerbers, because I do not want them printed out of PCBWay. Some people can download gerbers and print them from different PCB companies. If there is an important reason for this, you may contact me via e-mail c64istanbul@bikom.com. Thank you.

  • Hi How did you come up with the values of 33pF for the crystal capacitors? Do you have the equation you used as you can purchase 8MHz crystals with different load capacitances and this would affect the values chosen to use in the construction. (The datasheet for 1284p recommends capacitors values of 12-22pF) My crystal has a load capacitance of 18pF so what would be the correct values to use? Regards Brad

    (DIY) C64iSTANBUL 2021-08-09 15:01:05Reply

Hello Bradley Tate. The schematics at the official site recommended to use 33pF (C4,C5) and I experienced no problem with 33pF. Did you run into any problems when you used 33pF values? My regards ( http://www.pitsch.de/stuff/mmc2iec/MMC2IEC_antabaka_LarsP_neu.gif )

  • I like the project, but have a couple questions. I've got the Fastload part working but I'm having a little trouble with the SD2IEC. First, I can't find any place where it says which LED is red and which is green. The PCB just labels them both LED. I put the green on the left near the edge and the red on the other side, but I think that may be wrong. When I power it up the left LED will flash for a second then go out. If I remove the sdcard, the left LED will light up for 10 to 20 seconds then go out. The right LED never comes on at all.

    (DIY) C64iSTANBUL 2021-03-09 09:06:04Reply

Hello Bradley Benson. The LEDs colours are depend on your choice, you can use different colours if you like. The LED at the corner is activity LED. The other LED iluminates when recording (saving) data in the SD card. Please do Not remove or insert the SD card while Commodore is on, fisrt turn off the commodore then insert or remove the SD card. Thank you for asking.

  • Hi Great project by the way. I have made up a couple of these and testing I was having some SD card issues. When checking the sd card module voltages the 3.3volt pin was around 4.5volt! A closer inspection of the SD card reader module revealed that the negative side of the on-board 3.3volt regulator was not grounded but floating. The branding of the ones I purchased are LC Studio. There are different brands of module and all appear to look the same but if you look closer at the area around the regulator and capacitor c3/c4 some have the ground connected and some have it missing. So check your modules and if there is no ground connected on the regulator you have to run a jumper link. Once I sorted this all seemed fine. Maybe an update to this project to use the micro sd card reader would be great as the sd card modules apparently don't confirm to the sd card standard with how they handle the data signals. Thanks for all your work on the projects. Cheers Brad

Hi Bradley Tate, thank you, I will examine it. I did not notice any SD card issues before. What kind of SD card issues you have experianced? My e-mail: c64istanbul@bikom.com Cheers.

    (DIY) C64iSTANBUL 2021-03-04 21:58:54Reply

I measured two different SD card module 3.3V pins, one of them was LC Studio brand, they are both 3.3V without SDCard (un-inserted). When I insert SDCard they both 4.4V. The two SD2iEC is working perfect and flawless. The voltage levels you measured are normal, maybe the problem is from the SDCard.

  • Hi, great project combining SD2IEC and Fast Load.. What is the purpose of the jumper "8/9/10/11"?

    (DIY) C64iSTANBUL 2021-01-06 19:37:35Reply

Thank you Zarko Kulic. Jumpers are for drive device number of sd2iec, when using multiple drives.

  • So I built the unit as described. The Sd2IEC part of the cart works perfectly but it seems like Fastload does not come up. I don't see the fastload prompt and the commands for fastload don't seem to work. I tried a 27C64 and a 27C512 with the images in the zip file but it still wont work. Any clue what I could be doing wrong?

    (DIY) C64iSTANBUL 2020-12-13 00:53:55Reply

The 74LS07 may be out of order, please test it with your programmer if possible.

    David Green 2020-12-13 07:01:26Reply

I tried several. They all tested fine in my programmer. They are 74LS07N is the N a problem?

    (DIY) C64iSTANBUL 2020-12-14 19:15:51Reply

I don't think "N" is a problem. Tha fast load part is a very simple part of this project. Fast Load has only 5 components, maybe the 470 nF capacitor has a problem or your C64 PLA chip can cause the problem, do you have a chance to change them?

    (DIY) C64iSTANBUL 2020-12-14 19:22:37Reply

Can you please send, clear photos from both front and back side, to my e-mail c64istanbul@bikom.com

OK, Sent. Thanks for your help.

    David Green 2020-12-14 21:22:28Reply

I did try 3 different PLA's and no go. Is there possibly an issue with the fastload images?

    David Green 2020-12-14 21:42:46Reply

Thank you Franz Buchecker. Next release will be with TQFP package ATMEGA version. But I will think about your suggestions. My regards.
