NeoPixel XL
What is it?
If you ever been used or seen neopixel LED, then you will be familiar to this concept. It's a RGB LED that has 3 LEDs, Red, Green and Blue inside. This is a digital LED that comes with a LED driver ic. Which allows you to address each LED individually to control the Color and brightness of the LED. Neopixel-XL is a scaled up version of just that. You can hooked it up with any microcontrollers of your choice, and control it the same way you do for the other addressable RGB leds. It works great with FastLED library. And I have also written a library for it based on fastLED library for easily getting started with this.
Why did you make it?
The regular neopixel LED is great to create mesmerizing light effects. But if you feel a single WS2812B led isn't bright enough for a certain project then Neopixel-XL will fill that gap. It consists of a 3W RGB LED, a WS2811 LED driver IC and 3 mosfets with complimentary resistors to boost the week signal from the WS2811 outputs to drive the high power LED. It shared the same pinout as the original WS2812B led. And you can also daisy chained them together. But make sure to use a separate power supply that can deliver enough power to drive all these high power LEDs.
Specifications:
- Input voltage : DC 5v
- Input Current : 0.6A
- Power Consumption : 3W
- Dimension : 20mm x 20mm
- Shared the same pinout as WS2812
- Compatible with FastLED library
- works with any microcontroller
What makes it special?
Due to it's high color contrast and super brightness and it can be used in any lighting project small and big where one Neopixel-XL can replace many standard RGB leds. It is also breadboard friendly. So you can easily put this onto a breadboard as well. Also you can made a custom PCB to permanently solder this onto it.
